Finish The Race
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
Bible Reading: 1 Kings 11:1-13
No doubt, Solomon started well. As a king, he obeyed his father’s instruction, and most importantly, sought the face of the Lord. He built the temple for the Lord and also his own palace. His judgment was a demonstration of unprecedented wisdom. He did what was right in the sight of the Lord. Solomon’s beginning as the king of Israel was wonderful. It was not devoid of mistakes such as laying burden on the people throughout the building project. However with that been said, king Solomon was amazing. He was a master planner and strategist.
However, along the way, he missed it. He took for himself wives from the tribes and countries God forbade. He disobeyed God even though he knew God’s commandment to the people of Israel. God’s instructions are to preserve us because God loves us. In fact, if you can follow them, you will be blessed. King Solomon’s disobedient marriages meant that he heaped hot coal under his garment. Indeed, he was burnt. When he grew old, the foreign women he married turned his heart against God. Here’s how the Bible puts it: ‘For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father’ (1 Kings 11:4 KJV).
Dear friend, to finish the Christian race means letting go of every sin that easily beset you. It means accepting the redemption work of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary, and absolute obedience and submission unto God. We have the Holy Spirit on our side and if we partner with Him, we will finish the race and be rewarded with the crown of righteousness (2 Timothy 4:8).
Daily Confession: Thank you God for the Holy Spirit that’s my Companion and Counsel. I yield my vessel unto Him so that I can walk worthy of the Lord in Jesus name.
Intercessory prayer: pray for the church of God to awake from slumber and take her place as God desires in Jesus name.
Hymn: Lord, lift me up, and let me stand,
By faith on Heaven’s tableland;
A higher plane than I have found,
Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.
