God at Work in Us

For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure. Ephesians 2:13

Bible Reading: Ephesians 1:17-23

As God’s children, it is important we have a deep understanding of our identity in Christ Jesus. Our knowledge of who we are in Christ is crucial to how far we will go life and destiny because we cannot grow beyond our knowledge and experience. Apostle Paul’s prayer in our Bible reading today is crucial to living an effective and fruitful life. We have to constantly pray ‘that the eyes of our understanding be enlightened’. One of the profound truths Apostle Paul shared with us is found in today’s memory verse. God is at work in us both to will and to do for His pleasure. We have to believe and accept this gospel truth. In the same writings to the church in Philippi, Paul writes I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). If indeed we are empowered by God both to do and to will, then we will learn to depend on God every single day to help us. We will also humble ourselves and draw near to God daily because our sufficiency is not of ourselves but of God who works in us for His own pleasure.

Daily Confession: I receive the grace to depend on God’s help by the Holy Spirit in Jesus name..

Intercessory Prayer: Lord, we pray for peace across different nations where there is turmoil in Jesus’ name.

Hymn: Take my life and let it be

consecrated, Lord, to thee.

take my moments and my days;

let them flow in endless praise,

let them flow in endless praise.
