God Hears Us
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. 1 John 5:14
Bible Reading: John 16:23-24
We serve prayer answering God! He encourages us to pray because He answers our prayer. Answers may not be how you envision it or based on your timing, but God answers prayer. Jesus understood the power and the importance of prayer so he taught his disciples how to pray (Matthew 6:9-13). We pray because we want to communicate with our Heavenly Father. Prayer also shows our reliance and dependence on Him because when we pray, we acknowledge that we need God to intervene in our lives. We pray because someone is hearing us. Prayer is a communication system instituted by God and if we understand how effective it is, we will give our lives unto prayer. Apostle Paul writing to James, his son in the Lord, highlights the power of prayer and issues to pray about: “And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him… the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:13-18).
The Bible is full of answered prayers. Right from the book of Genesis to Revelation, God began to intervene in the affairs of men by listening to petitions and answering prayers. For instance, God heard Abraham’s prayer and gave him a son, same as Isaac, delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, gave Hannah children, delivered Jonah from the belly of the fish, Jesus’ prayers were answered when he was on earth as he prayed to his Heavenly Father, same as Apostle Paul and the church. Jesus would go out to a solitary place very early to pray to His Father (Mark 1:35). He encouraged us to pray until our joy is full because we have a Heavenly Father that listens wherever we call (John 16:24). He is available to help us and we have the Holy Spirit that can help us intercede, “Like the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. I will leave you with Jesus’ words: “… Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.” (John 16:23-24). Dear friends, ask in Jesus name. This means you have to know Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, and ask by faith in Him.
Action Point: Pray to God about your needs.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for your family members and friends for God to meet their needs
Hymn: Oh, how praying rests the weary!
Prayer will change the night to day;
So in sorrow and in gladness,
Don’t forget to pray.
