God Is Love
We love, because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19
Bible Reading: 1 John 4:7-21
The way the world understand love contradicts God’s idea of love. God is the originator of love because He is love. We are redeemed because of God’s love. God’s love shows the true understanding of love: A deliberate and decisive choice to sacrifice for the purpose of lifting the other. Love gives and this is why God gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Love is evident through deeds and truth. John puts it thus: ‘My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth’ (I John 3:18).
Apostle Paul identifies characteristics of God’s kind of love: ‘Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things (1 Corinthians 13:4-7 KJV). Love is not lust or a feeling. It is not an emotional outburst, in fact, it is self-control. We can show true love by the help of the Holy Spirit that dwells in us if we have given our life to Jesus Christ (Galatians 5:22-26).
Finally, love is the fulfilment of the law (Romans 13:8-10). Jesus summarized the entire Ten Commandments into two: Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself (Matthew 22:37-39 KJV). Dear friends, I encourage you to allow God work in and through you to love others. Like Apostle Paul admonishes, ‘Owe nothing to anyone except to love and seek the best for one another; for he who [unselfishly] loves his neighbor has fulfilled the [essence of the] law [relating to one’s fellowman]’ (Romans 13:8, AMP).
Daily Confession: I have the spirit of God in me. I am loving.
Action point: Do something to help someone today.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for peace of God in your home. Pray for your spouse and your children for God’s visitation.
Hymn: I am so glad, that Jesus loves me
Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me,
I am so glad that Jesus loves me
Jesus loves even me.
