God of Another Chance (II)
‘… I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” (Romans 9;15)
Bible Reading: Jonah 2
God did not only show mercy unto Jonah, the people of Nineveh enjoyed God’s mercy. The city was spared because of God’s mercy. If not for God’s mercy, the city and its inhabitants would have been consumed (Lamentation 3:22-23). To continue our story in the book of Jonah, Jonah prayed to God from the belly of the fish and God answered because He is a loving Father who hears us whenever we call unto Him. The fish dropped Jonah in Nineveh and Jonah spoke to the people as the Lord had commanded him. When the people heard Jonah’s word from the Lord, they trembled, they were filled with godly sorrow which brings repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10). In fact, the king ordered his citizens to fast including their animals. It was a summon unto repentance. The entire city was remorseful and they prayed to God. God gave them another chance and Nineveh was not destroyed.
We see God’s mercy to both an individual and to an entire nation. Why do you think your country cannot be saved? No individual is beyond redemption because Jesus came to die for all. No matter what has happened in the past, we have this confidence that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believe in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.
Also, our response to God’s mercy is important. The city of Nineveh responded to God’s unfailing love with total repentant heart. Dear friends, let’s the story of Nineveh inspire you to pray for God’s mercy and genuine repentance for others those who are yet to know Jesus Christ and those who were once in faith and have gone back into the world.
Daily Confession: Thank you for mercy Lord Jesus. Help me to humble myself so that I can receive your mercy in my life, amen.
Intercessory prayer: Intercede for those who are no longer in faith, and gor the church of God.

Hymn:  Amazing grace! (how sweet the sound)

That sav’d a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
