God’s Leading
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (Romans 8:14)
Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 16
God chose a substitute for king Saul after Saul’s disobedience to God’s instruction, and his disrespect and dishonour to the office of the prophet. After God rejected Saul, God instructed prophet Samuel to anoint David as the replacement for king Saul. With every sense of urgency and certainty, prophet Samuel journeyed to the house of Jesse the Beth-lehemite to anoint one of Jesse’s sons whom God had chosen as a king over the Israelites. Upon prophet Samuel’s arrival, he  called Jesse and his sons to sacrifice with him before the Lord. “And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, surely the Lord’s anointed is before him” (1 Samuel 16:6). Thank God for His mercy. God cautioned prophet Samuel for “the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7b). The sons of Jesse passed before Samuel and none were chosen except Jesse’s insignificant son, David who was on the field shepherding his father’s flock. God’s leading is important to our lives— from the small decisions in our lives to the big ones. In fact, God wants to lead his people because He is the good Shepherd (Psalms 23). God will never lead his children astray (Psalm 23); He will lead us if we ask Him (Matthew 7:7); and finally, He has a provision for us by His Spirit (Romans 8:14). God leads us through His written and revealed word (logos and rhema), through the Holy Spirit, and through circumstances. Dear friends, the hallmark of the sons of God is that they led by the Spirit of God. And God’s leading is available to his children— those who have come to know Him through his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, and are ready to ask for His leading and obey Him by faith as He leads.
Daily Confession: I am a son of God, hence I am led by the Spirit of God.
Intercessory Prayer: Intercede for the youth of this generation that they will come to know Jesus and have an intimate walk with Him.
Hymn: Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us
o’er the world’s tempestuous sea;
guard us, guide us, keep us, feed us,
for we have no help but thee;
yet possessing every blessing,
if our God our Father be.
