Imitate Christ (II)

Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. John 5:19

Bible Reading: Ephesians 5:1-2

Yesterday, we examined an overview of what it means to imitate and who we are to imitate as Christians. Christian means Christ-like. As Christians, following Christ Jesus means knowing Him because He is our perfect example. It also means trusting that He is able and capable to lead us because His thought for us is good and not evil to give us an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11). It involves being honest, open to Him, obedient and sacrificial etc.

Today, let’s examine the attributes we should imitate. God is love. He gave his only begotten son to die for the sins of the world and Christ gave up himself as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. As imitators of Christ, living a life of love is central to our Christian journey. Love that is from a pure heart, good conscience and sincere faith. Love is patient, kind, and forgiving; it is not envious, jealous, boastful, proud, self-seeking, easily angered, rude and takes no records of wrongs. Love always protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres (read 1 Corinthians 13).

God’s kind of love embraces righteousness, and holiness because it is from a pure heart. For instance, Apostle Paul (in 1 Timothy 1) was never giving us rules as Christians, rather, he presented to us the realities we can access in Christ Jesus. He unveils our identity in Christ because if you are born of God, you do not belong to the world again, rather, you have been redeemed through the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus. Dear friends, let us not grow weary in loving. Look unto Jesus Christ in words, and in deeds because that is why you are called a Christian. When you believe the word of truth, you are marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, which is a deposit guaranteeing that we belong to God. Thus, the Holy Spirit now lives in you and as we look unto Jesus with unveiled faces reflect the Lord’s glory, we are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit (Heb. 12:2; 2 Corinthians 3:18).

Self-Reflection: Imitate no one but Christ Jesus because he is our perfect example.

Daily Confession: Lord Jesus, help me to imitate You every day of my life so that I can be like You in Jesus’ name.

Intercessory prayer: Commit itinerary ministers unto God’s hands for unction to function, God’s presence and provision for their needs.

Hymn: When we walk with the Lord

In the light of His Word,

What a glory He sheds on our way;

While we do His good will,

He abides with us still,

And with all who will trust and obey.
