Intercede for Your City (III)
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14
Bible Reading: James 5:16
As an intercessor, you are giving yourself and your time in the place of prayer. It is not a selfish act. It is an act of love that involves and requires everything in you. It is really disheartening to see selfish Christians. In fact, it seems our churches and the sermons we listen at this end time focus more on self- self preservation, care for self etc. For many Christians, their only prayer points are “God bless me, bless my family, give me money, prosper me… Lord do this and do that for me etc”. And they sprinkle prayers for their country and others for few seconds after they have prayed hours for themselves. We are not saying that it is not good to pray for yourself, however, if your prayer only focuses on you without praying for others, without the burden for others’ salvation and needs, then that’s selfishness and you need God to deliver you from such bondage. Did you know that selfishness is a sign of the end time? Here’s how Apostle Paul puts it: “This know also, that in the last days perilous [dangerous] times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves” (2 Timothy 3:1-2a). To intercede is to mediate, stand in gap, and act between parties with a view to reconciling differences. An effective intercessory prayer requires faith in Jesus Christ to answer such prayer. It involves allowing the Holy Spirit to pray through us. Compassion is also a necessity and at times (depending on who and what we are interceding for), research can be helpful to know the need to pray for.
Dear friends, you cannot afford to be selfish in your prayer because you are a product of intercession. Someone prayed for you— first for your salvation and then other things. I encourage you to allow the Lord work through you by being a consistent, faithful and effective intercessor that God can trust with secret things of His kingdom.
Action point: Ask the Lord to release upon you grace for supplication for the purpose of intercession.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for God’s healing for those who are sick and the needs of as many people that come to your heart.
Song: Prayer is the key, prayer is the key
Prayer is the master key,
Jesus started with prayer
And ended with prayer
Prayer is the master key.
