Jesus, Our Pattern

But in these last days he has spoken to us by His Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. Hebrews 1:2 (NIV)

Bible Reading: Hebrews 1:1-4

In the Old Testament, the Prophets and Priests mediated between God and men. Prophets like Elijah, Moses and Isaiah received instructions from God to His people. In fact, only the high priest had access to the Holies of holies. Although God wrought miracles through these prophets, He has in these last days chosen to reveal himself to us through His Son, Jesus Christ because “the Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word” vs 3. More than the prophets, Jesus Christ who was tempted in every way and yet was without sin has been made the perfect pattern for us. God said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” Matthew 17:5 (NIV). Although it is good to learn from the lives of people who are spiritually ahead of us, we should note that they have their weaknesses. In fact, God expects them to point us to the person of Jesus and not to themselves. This is because you can never miss your purpose in life and eternity if you pattern your life after Jesus by the help of the Holy Spirit. Jesus must be our pattern if we will ever measure up to God’s standard.
