Lessons from the Ants (III).
Go to the ant, O lazy one; Observe her ways and be wise Proverbs 6:6 (AMP)
Bible Reading: Proverbs 6:6-11; Matthew 25:14-30
King James Version for one of our Bible readings today mentions sleep four times. Sleep has become number one enemy of many people. It has debarred many people from fulfilling their vision. Although many dreamt of greatness, they have allowed sleep to rob them of those dreams from coming to fruition. Here are some statistics on sleep: if you spend 79 years on earth with average sleep of 8 hours daily, you would have used at least 26 years [9490 days] sleeping. Sleep is not a bad thing. In fact, sleep matters because it is a divine program needed for our body to function effectively.
However, the Bible warns the sluggard against sleep, that is, laziness and folding of arms. Many people have slept away their future because of laziness and waste of time. The ants know when to sleep and when to work. Timing is essential to everything. Ants do not sleep in the summer, rather they prepare their food in the summer and bring in their provision of food for the winter. This is because during winter they can’t be found outside, or else, the cold will freeze them out. Ants are so self-disciplined that they do not waste away their irreplaceable resource, time.
To the lazy one, the Bible asks, ‘when will you arise from your sleep [and learn self-discipline]? (Proverbs 6:9, AMP). This is because with a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to lie down and rest, so a lazy person’s poverty will come slowly but surely and there will not be anything to attend to the needs that will arise.
Dear friends, in concluding this series, I want to reiterate that Jesus abhors laziness and slothfulness. The parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30) shows clearly that Jesus is interested in His children maximizing their potentials. From the parable, we see that persons that were given five and two talents put their talents to use and made profits but the person that hid his talent was sent into eternal condemnation. I encourage you to take active steps to fulfil your vision for the year; if you need to enrol in classes, send that email, join networks, wake up to study, pray, be punctual in your office, minimize the use of social media to avoid distraction, invest in your now and your future. Finally, do everything as unto the Lord. God bless you.
Daily Confession: Lord help me to take these lessons from the ants and fulfil your purpose through me in Jesus name, amen.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for the church you attend and the body of Christ as a whole for God’s touch and revival.
Hymn: What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
