Let there be Revival (II)
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”
Matthew 16:24-25 ESV
Bible Reading: Exodus 33:12-17
In our Bible reading today, Moses was concerned about God’s glory, reputation, honour and name. Moses said, Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people (Exodus 33:13). Moses was interested in building a relationship that is deep and cordial with God and knowing God’s way. If we desire revival to gratify ourselves, to service our ego or to show spiritual machismo, then, we are only serving our purpose not God’s.
Don’t you think we have become lovers of ourselves, our cry now is about me, my family, my tribe, my country? It seems the world has become absorbed and consumed in self. I do not mean it is not right to provide for and protect ourselves or our families, however, when the love for self continually consumes the world including God’s people, then there is a problem. When shall we forget about ourselves and focus on Jesus Christ? We have to align with God as we follow Jesus Christ’s injunction, If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it (Matthew 16:24-25). This is because revival is a concern for God: His glory, His honour and His name. May our sincere cry today be to love the Lord with all our heart, and with all our soul, and with all our mind (Matthew 22:37).
Self-Reflection: Are you consumed in love for self or love for God?
Daily Confession: Lord Jesus help me to take You as the Center of my life. That I may love You with the whole of my life. Rid me of myself and the love for self and cause me to focus on You in Jesus name, amen.
Hymn: Come, Thou Almighty King,
Help us Thy name to sing,
Help us to praise:
Father, all glorious
O’er all victorious,
Come and reign over us,
Ancient of Days.
