Praying for One Another (II)
I urge, then, first of all, that petitioners, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people                       — (1 Timothy 2:1)
Bible Reading: 1Timoty 2:1-8
In our reflection yesterday, we reiterated that as disciples of Jesus Christ, intercession is important to our growth and development. Also, when we pray for others, systems and structures, we are enforcing the kingdom of God. Today, let’s examine who we are to pray for. In the second verse of the Bible reading, Apostle Paul admonishes us to pray for kings and for all that are in authority. Why? So that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. Although God is all-powerful and all-knowing, he has chosen to let us be involved through our prayers in how he is changing the world. Through our prayers, we are legislating and insisting on God’s kingdom to be established and accomplished in our lives and in the territories we find ourselves. Dear friends, our first priority as Christians in our nations should be to pray for those in authority. I understand at times, some of our leaders can be selfish and oblivious to the needs of the people, yet, we are to pray for them and ask God to bring his love and his judgement. We have to obtain grace to stop speaking evil of our leaders. Let’s pray for God’s mercy upon them and for our nations to be led by individuals who fear God and love God’s people.
Daily Confession: I receive grace to pray for leaders in my city, state and country.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for your leaders at church, place of work etc
Hymn: Trust and obey
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus
But to trust and obey.
