Take a stand (III)

After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel. Judges 2:10 (NIV)

Bible Reading: Ezra 7:1-10

Ezra, the Jewish scribe and priest returned from the Babylonian exile to Jerusalem to teach the Israelites the word of the Lord and the appropriate way of worship of Yahweh. Our generation needs to carefully preserve and uphold the true legacy of God’s word. Our generation desperately needs to stand up for righteousness and refuse to conform to the things of this world. For instance, we must spend quality time in God’s presence; study, meditate and live by God’s word. Our worship, congregational prayers, testimonies, spiritually inspired renditions and sermons among others must be spirit-filled. Through us, the world must see Jesus.

It is important that Christians and the church of God return to proper ways of serving the Lord, teach God’s command, and preach sound biblical doctrine. We should stand on the truth of God’s word and seek to know Jesus daily. Dear friends, like in the case of the nation of Israel, there is a need to take a deliberate effort to raise a generation that knows God. For instance, as parents, train your child in the way of the Lord, pray together as a family, share your faith, study to show thyself approved unto the Lord and live in the spirit etc. Christians (parents, teachers, ministers etc) ensure that you live and teach in ways that will give glory to the Lord. Remember that Ezra would not have been able to take on the responsibility of teaching God’s decrees and laws in Israel if “he did not devote himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord” (Ezra 7:10; 8:2-10).

Self-Reflection: There’s always a remnant that refuses to compromise to world’s standard (I Kings 19:18).

Action Point: Intercede for your family, friends, your church and the body of Christ at large.

Intercessory prayer: Lord help our generation to know You and stand up for righteousness in Jesus’ name.

Hymn: Onward, Christian soldiers!

Marching as to war,

With the cross of Jesus

Going on before.
