The Danger of Loneliness
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another”. Proverbs 27:17
Bible Reading: Hebrew 10:25
The Bible cautions against loneliness because it can open someone up to different forms of attack. Loneliness is the state of being alone or without a friend or companion. Everyone will face loneliness at different points in life but what is most important is the way one respond to it. For instance, as a single person, you will face loneliness before you get married. In fact, God said it is not good for man to be alone so he created for him a help meet (Genesis 2:18). God made humans as social beings. The desire to connect with one another is innate and this God-given attribute drive our world today. The need to be in relationship with another person has resulted in both good and bad choices. With the global pandemic and its negative effects, we have been restricted from connecting to one another in different ways which has increased mental health issues and has brought loneliness to many people.
How do you overcome loneliness? First, Jesus Christ wants to be your friend. He knows and see all things. He is knocking the door of your heart, let Him in. Also, seek help from the right people and network because iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17). As a Christian, be committed to your local church and do not forsake the gathering of the saints (Hebrew 10:25). Guard your heart — be mindful what you feed your eyes (Job 31:1). Above all, maintain a steady walk with Jesus Christ because He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. Spend more time in the place of prayer and studying of God’s word. Use this time to deepen your relationship with God. For as many that are struggling with loneliness and its consequences, pray to God for help to break free from any addiction and the cycle of behaviour you may have fallen into that is not healthy for your live.
