The Heart of a Man (II)

“The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live.” Deuteronomy 30:6 KJV

 Bible Reading: Hebrews 10:15-18

Yesterday’s reflection focused on prophet Samuel’s encounter in Jesse’s house when God instructed him to anoint another person to replace king Saul. If not for God’s intervention, prophet Samuel would have anointed the wrong person because he was looking at the outward appearance. May we learn to be sensitive and spiritually alert so that we can follow God as He leads us. Amen

Today’s devotion is a continuation of what we started pondering on yesterday, the heart of man. When God created man and woman in the beginning, everything He created was good and perfect. Man’s heart and thought aligned with God’s because there was a connection between man and God. We realized for instance that the naming exercise Adam carried out for God’s creation was apt …”whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof ” Genesis 2:19. However, something changed when man disobeyed God. Here’s how the Bible describes the un-regenerated heart: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is extremely sick; who can understand it fully and know its secret motives? “(Jeremiah 17:10). You know man’s face can be deceitful, it can hide thoughts, plans and even experiences. For instance, someone’s face can look beautiful and adorned with different make-ups but agonizing inside.

The human heart is sick and it can only be healed through Christ’s redemptive blood. In fact, until there is a circumcision of the heart, the old nature continues to rule. To have a renewed mind, we need to look unto Jesus and be transformed by His saving grace as well as his word.

Self-Reflection: Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23.

Daily Confession: Lord, I thank you for purifying my heart and conforming it to yours. Help me study your word so I experience true transformation within and without. Amen

Hymn: Take my life, and let it be

             Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;

             Take my moments and my days,

             Let them flow in ceaseless praise,

             Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
