The Help We Need (I)

I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. Psalm 121:1

Bible Reading: 121

I don’t know about you, but I am in need of help daily. I need help from people around me and from God. The kind of help we are talking about today cannot be given to me by anyone except God. For instance, who can give me the strength to take on the tasks ahead of me? Who can give me grace for every moment? What about wisdom to handle tough situations? Who can protect and deliver me from all evil? And who can offer mercy which I need every second? The author of our Bible reading today understands the need for help, he acknowledges the One (God) who could give him the help he needed, and he cries to God for help. He did not grumble and complain; rather, he called on the One who could help me. Like the psalmist, we have to learn to focus on God, who can give us the help we need. Stop looking at men because you will get disappointed if they do not meet your expectations. Rather, ask God, who can give you all the help you need. I’d like to bring this reflection to an end by reading the first stanza of Psalm 121.

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills,

From whence cometh my help

My help cometh from the Lord

Which made heaven and earth”.

Intercessory prayer: Pray for those struggling with one situation or another around you.

Hymn: My help (x3)

All of my help cometh from the Lord.
