The letter kills but the Spirit gives life (I)

Who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. 2 Corinthians 3:6 (NKJV)

Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 3:4-6

The Bible is beyond a historical document. Yes, it contains events of the past, but also revelations of truth and wisdom for daily living. Beyond the fact that the Bible gives us knowledge of God, it impacts the revelation and wisdom of God unto us through the Spirit of God because “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). The Bible reveals Jesus to us.

The reason why the word of God is active and sharper than a two-edged sword is the power of God that backs it up (Hebrew 4:12). If we study God’s word without experiencing the power of God that’s behind the word, then, we will be carrying around head knowledge. When we have a genuine encounter with God’s power, we stand in awe of Him and His word and our lives will be transformed. For as many who have encountered God through the Word, they are transformed. Such people stand in awe of God and believe in God because of the undeniable conviction in their hearts.

No longer shall we be Christians who only hear and study the Scriptures without a true encounter with the Spirit of God. Enough of disregard for the word of God because we are following the letters, rather than knowing Christ Jesus who is the author and the finisher of our faith. When Apostle Paul encountered Jesus, His life never remained the same. In Matthew 22:29, Jesus Christ Jesus speaks that Pharisees and Sadducees did not know the word of God or the power of God therein because they neither had understanding nor revelation of God/His kingdom. Dear friends, it is high time we embarked on a word feast. Seek the Lord through His word. No longer shall we be followers of the letter without the Spirit of God. As you read, study and meditate on God’s word, I encourage you to seek to know God through His word, and earnestly desire to have fresh encounters with God through His word. Then we can be doers of God’s word and not mere hearers. God bless you.

Self-Reflection: When was the last time you sought the Lord to reveal Himself to you through His word?

Action Point: Change your attitude to God’s word (the Bible).

Daily Confession: [I always pray] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may grant you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation [that gives you a deep and personal and intimate insight] into the true knowledge of Him [for we know the Father through the Son] in Jesus’ name. Ephesians 1:17 (AMP).

Intercessory prayer: I pray for a fresh desire for the sincere milk of the Word in my generation in Jesus’ name.

Hymn: Give us o Lord thine unction,

Anoint us for thine work,

Arise and set us in motion,

O Lord the Man of war
