The Lord’s Word (I)

“The Lord is my shepherd [to feed, to guide and to shield me]; I shall not want.” Psalm 23:1 [AMP]

Bible Reading: Psalm 23

God’s abundance will be evident throughout the 365 days, 52 weeks, and 12 months of year 2024 in our lives in Jesus’ name. Throughout the year, we will encounter abundance on every side because God knows the plans and thought He has for us, says the Lord, “plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give us a future and a hope’ (Jeremiah 29:11, AMP). Psalm 23, our theme Scripture for the year is a familiar scripture and it starts with a simple but powerful declaration, “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want”. For the next few days, we will focus on the theme scripture.

Psalm 23 is a Psalm of David with the title, The Lord, the Psalmist’s Shepherd. David starts from the most important place, the place of who. David identifies “The Lord” as his shepherd. This is important because the person (who) that is sponsoring you is important. No wonder the Bible says “Where the word of the king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, what doest thou?” (Ecclesiastes 8:4). If the King of kings is backing you and He is your shepherd (that means He is for you), who can stand against you? (Romans 8:31-39). After identifying the Lord, David further to show us what the Lord is. “The Lord is MY shepherd” (Psalm 23:1a, emphasized). To be a shepherd is to take care of, guide, shield and feed the flock. There is a response that is expected from the flock—a total surrender and submission to the shepherd. Our attitude must be that of total obedience to the shepherd and deliberately invite Him into everything we want to do.

Also, our Heavenly Father is the Shepherd of shepherds. It is personal. Dear friends, have you given your life to Jesus so that He can be your shepherd? God wants to be personal with you this year. He wants to be in fellowship with you. As the Good Shepherd, he wants to bless you abundantly. If you are yet to know Him personally, this is a great opportunity to start the journey of the new year with the Good Shepherd who loves you unconditionally.

Self-Reflection: If the Lord is your shepherd, then let him direct, guide and shield you in every aspect of your life.

Action Point: Deliberately invite God into everything you will do this year.

Intercessory prayer: Pray for salvation for anyone in your sphere who is yet to know Jesus as their Good Shepherd

Hymn: On Christ the solid rock, I stand

All other ground is sinking sand,

All other ground is sinking sand.
