The Miracle of Sight: Let’s Conclude
For as these qualities are yours and are increasing [in you as you grow toward spiritual maturity], they will keep you from being useless and unproductive in regard to the true knowledge and greater understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is blind– shortsighted [closing his spiritual eyes to the truth], having become oblivious to the fact that he was cleansed from his old sins. 2 Peter 1:8-9
Bible Reading: Mark 11:12-14
As we bring this series to a close, it is important to understand the reasons Apostle Peter admonished us to add all the virtues to our faith. If these qualities are ours in an increasing measure, we will be fruitful and productive in our knowledge of Jesus Christ. It means we will be true light and salt as Jesus said in Matthew 5:13-14. “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden” (NIV). I don’t know about you but I want to be fruitful in my walk with God. I want to abide in him so that I can produce more fruits for His glory (John 15:5). Our Bible reading today is about the fig tree Jesus cursed because it looked healthy on the outside but it was fruitless and unproductive. It bears similitude with a Christian without the qualities Apostle Peter identified. Such a Jesus-professing person won’t be fruitful because they lack the necessary virtues needed to have clear vision, produce right fruits and grow. Dear friends, I encourage you to be intentional about your spiritual growth because it will reflect in every aspect of your life. Submit to the Holy Spirit and humble yourself to learn so that your character and your life can bring others to the true knowledge of Jesus.
Daily Confession: Lord fill my heart with Your love. Help me to grow in all these qualities so that I can be fruitful in my knowledge of Jesus Christ, amen.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for God’s peace across nations, in your city, state/province and your country.
Hymn: We have an anchor that keeps the soul
steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!
