The Name of Jesus

And a voice from heaven said, “this is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased”.     Matthew 3:17

Bible Reading: Matthew 3:13-17

A name is important to purpose and destiny. “Is it really relevant?” someone asked. If it’s irrelevant, let’s ask Jabez who desperately cried for God’s intervention because of the meaning his name denoted. How about Abram, whose name was changed to Abraham, Sarai to Sarah, and Jacob to Israel etc? Their names were changed to align with the destiny God had for them. Their new names embodied the reality of God’s covenant for their lives. For instance, Abram, exalted father, changed to Abraham, a father of many nations, while Sarai, changed to Sarah, a mother of many nations (Genesis 17:3-16). A name is powerful because it can determine what something represents and potentially shapes the future and expectations. In fact, in order to understand how relevant a name is to a destiny, several persons in the Bible such as Samson, Jesus Christ, and John the Baptist had their names prophesied before their birth.

Christ Jesus, who is our perfect example is the Saviour of the world, hence the name Jesus Christ because “He will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). He is also the Living Word of God that manifest in human flesh for the redemption of mankind, and to reconcile man back to God. In His name, every name knee bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord (Philippians 2:9-11).

Many people, religions, scholars and ideas in the world continually try to efface the Omnipotent, Omnipresence and Omniscience name of Jesus Christ. Some Christians even find it hard to mention in the name of Jesus when praying. The world is trying all it can to silence the truth about the name of Jesus, but here’s the good news, “nothing can be done against the truth but only for the truth” (2 Corinthians 13:8). There is power in the name of Jesus. At the mention of the name of Jesus, every knee must bow (Philippians 2:9-11). The name of Jesus saves, heals, delivers, blesses, and invites God’s Presence into any situation etc because Jesus Christ said, “ [And] I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask Me for anything in My name, and I will do it” (John 14:13-14). The name of Jesus Christ is effective, effectual and powerful; it retains its eternal value both in heaven and here on earth. Dear friends, I encourage you today to call on the name of Jesus with holy hands and pure hearts. No matter how the world opposes the gospel of Christ Jesus, know that salvation comes only by the name of Jesus, and God always reveal Himself as we come to Him through His only son, Jesus Christ.
