The Risen Lord
And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 1 Corinthians 15:14
Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:12-18
The Christian faith is anchored on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. If Jesus did not rise after He died for our iniquities, then our faith is vain. This is because it would mean that Jesus Christ was like every other person; He came to the world and died. It would mean Jesus does not have power over death, principality and power (Philippians 2:9-11). It also would mean that ‘the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places’ is false (Ephesians 1:19-20). In short, our Christian faith would have been false and unbelievable. No wonder the chief priest paid the guards to spread a rumour that Jesus’ body was stolen in the tomb and that he did not rise on the third day. The devil was in shock already by the turn of event and he was looking for a way to make something out of his shamble. Since he is the father of all liars, he used the chief priest to lie but that does not dispute the fact that Jesus is alive (Matthew 28:11-15). You and I are the reason why He is alive because His resurrection brought us live. Because He is alive we can show forth His glory, we can preach the gospel and invite others to experience the truly amazing grace that is in Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:16-22). In fact, the risen Lord appeared to his disciples in Galilee to speak to them before ascending to heaven and he instructed them to preach the gospel to every nation (what we call “the Great Commission). Finally, the risen Lord will come again (the Second Coming) to take the saints to heaven and reign with Him in eternity (John 14:2-4). Dear friends, May the reason for this season continually drive us to seek God daily and live for Him. And if you are yet to know Jesus, this is an opportunity to invite him into your life.
Daily Confession: May the resurrection power continually be at work in me in Jesus.
Intercessory prayer: Pray for those who are yet to know Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour
Song: Hallelujah, Jesus is alive
Death has lost its victory
And the grave has been denied
Jesus lives forever
He’s alive! He’s alive!
He’s the Alpha and Omega
The first and last is He
The curse of sin is broken
And we have perfect liberty
The lamb of God has risen
He’s alive! He’s alive!
Hallelujah, Jesus is alive!
