Thy Kingdom Come

“And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.” Luke 11: 2(KJV)

Bible Reading: Matthew 6:9-13

A kingdom is a domain of a king. It is not just a geographical location but also a sphere of influence. Anytime a kingdom takes over another kingdom, the system and modus operandi of the captured domain may change and the acquired territory is governed by a new set of laws and principles. The Lord’s prayer is powerful and sets a remarkable standard for us to emulate in our prayer. In fact,  every statement in this prayer model is important and truly conveys the heart of our heavenly Father. May God’s kingdom consume us and may nothing take our attention except fulfilling the will of God.

When the kingdom of God takes over someone, it changes the person inside out; pattern of thinking, perspective and the way one sees and views things. It also re-orient one’s manner of work, language, speech, loyalty and pursuit among others. It has the potential to transform one’s morality. Such a person desires and works to live according to God’s desire and purpose.

Furthermore, God wants to bring heaven on earth, even as we daily prepare to reign with Him in heaven. But while we are still here on earth, God desires that we live based on His kingdom principles- righteousness, holiness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Also, we have to understand that God is sovereign and He does not need our approval, or permission before His kingdom comes. When we pray, we are only yielding and aligning our lives to His purpose. God wants to work mightily through us and as we earnestly seek Him, we are submitting ourselves to God’s will so that we can be partners and partakers of His glory and bring Him pleasure.

Dear friend, ‘Thy kingdom come ” is not only a cry but a heartfelt desire for God’s kingdom to become palpable on earth among the nations. Through this prayer, Jesus Christ gave us insight into the earnest desire of our Heavenly Father. We must become more than comfortable in the heavenly realm; it must be our home, where we are more at home there than we are on this earth. We should be turning every place into an outpost of heaven wherever we are,our churches, workplace, and homes etc. It is God’s kingdom that makes heaven what it is, for the Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom rules over all (Psalm 103:19). May we become conscious of God’s desire and earnestly pursue it so that we can be prepared when His kingdom comes.

Daily Confession: My Father in heaven, let Thy kingdom come in my life and let Your will be done.

Hymn: Father, let Thy kingdom come,

             Let it come with living power;

             Speak at length the final word,

             Usher in the triumph hour.
