What Realm Are You Fighting?

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

Bible Reading: I Samuel 17

Matured wrestlers know that fighting outside the ring does not give them any point, rather it is a mere waste of time. The ultimate point that counts is getting in the ring. Thus, amidst showmanship, pride and ego, they keep the show till they get into the ring. How we have wasted our time fighting against the Devil outside the ring. That ring for us as Christians is our spiritual weapon: the name of Jesus, the word of God and the Holy Spirit. The fight of the Spirit is by faith. It means fighting in the name of Jesus Christ. When we fight in the Spirit, we are brave, confident and we take on what is incapable for the flesh to do. In fact, we are empowered by the Spirit of God when He fills us to fulfill God’s purpose through us.

David in our Bible reading today did not fight by his strength. Here’s what David said: You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied  (1 Samuel 17:45). David understood the battle cannot be won by mere sword, spear and javelin because those are physical weapons. But as children of God, our weapon are spiritual and mighty through God for the pulling down of strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 puts it thus: For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.

Furthermore, we understand that even when we have to engage physical weapons, it is the Lord that strengthens our weapons because it is not by power nor by might but by the spirit of the God ” (Zechariah 4:6). Dear friends, change the game plan and let your war strategy be to first present everything to God in prayers in the name of Jesus. Change the strategy from the flesh to the Spirit. It takes absolute faith to walk with God. I encourage you to wrestle in the spirit because you cannot come against the flesh and win by the flesh but by the spirit. That sin you are struggling with, those issues in your life, challenges in your home, problems in our countries etc can be overcome when we change our fighting strategy to the spirit.

Self-Reflection: Do not engage in spiritual battle with physical weapons.

Action Point: Pray without ceasing.

Daily Confession: Help me Father to be discerning and to engage in spiritual battle with spiritual weapons in Jesus name.

Hymn:We have an anchor that keeps the soul

Steadfast and sure while the billows roll,

Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,

Grounded firm and deep in the Savior’s love.
