When We Pray
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. II Chronicles 7:14
Bible Reading: II Chronicles 7:11-16
God is sovereign. He has power over all His creatures and His creation. The current pandemic that has ravaged the entire world attests to God’s ultimate power and the fact that nothing happens unless God permits it. One might be tempted to ask, why will God permit such evil pandemic that has caused the death of millions of people globally and has made many to lose their jobs? Well, while no one may have a complete answer to that question, if we look at today’s Bible reading, we see that it is possible that God sends pestilence even among His people (II Chronicles 7:13). What should be our response when there is no rain in the land, or when locusts devour the land or when pestilence strikes? The answer is found in the next verse which says “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land”.
Our response should be to come to God, humble ourselves before Him, acknowledge and repent from our wrong ways, and raise a heart cry unto God in prayer because He alone has the power to heal our land and deliver us from all evil. Prayer is an act of communicating with God and asking that His will prevails in every situation. Just like Elijah prayed and there was no rain for three and half years, we must engage in fervent prayer unto God. When Elijah prayed again, it rained upon the earth. Dear friends, I invite you to spend some time to pray for God’s peace on earth, pray for the salvation of backslidden and lost souls, pray that God will send rain upon His people across all nations of the earth.
Action Point: Settle with God in your heart, ask for God’s mercy over areas of your life that you have not lived up to His divine expectation.
Intercessory prayer: Be an Elijah, go ahead and pray as led based on today’s devotional.
Hymn: What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
