Word Therapy

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1

Bible Reading: Proverbs 24:3

Words have power. Words define destiny; it can either make it or maim it. The earth and its fullness were created by the spoken word of God (Genesis 1). Christ Jesus is the Living Word of God, and He has been in existence from eternity to eternity (John 1). Since human beings are made in the image and likeness of God, God has invested in us creative power through our words. In fact, the power of life and death are in the tongue, hence the need for positive confession (Proverbs 18:21), and positive imagination for as a man thinks in his heart, so shall he be (Proverbs 23:7). Spoken words have had both positive and negative impacts on destinies. For instance, some homes have been destroyed due to godless chatter, while other homes have been built and established through words that edify. While I was growing up, my parents never said negative words to us, and they always caution themselves not to say negative words about people in our presence. Anytime they had visitors and there is a need to discuss people or situations that would involve mentioning names, they simply asked us to leave the room. According to them, what is said and how is it said can influence thoughts, affect perspective, and impact lives. In essence, the outcome of our words can be refreshing or cause colossal damage. Words are products of our thoughts and what we say and how we say what we say is important because out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). Ponder the following questions: Who do you listen to? And what do you feed your thought with?

It is not a coincidence that Apostle Paul’s instructions in his epistles warn against godless chatter and quarrels over words. It neither profits the hearer nor the speaker. Families, children, teachers, couples, and spiritual leaders take note of the words you speak. Be self-controlled as to what you utter when angry. Jesus is the living Word, continually speak the word of God, declare who you are in Christ Jesus and let His word erase every negative word that has been spoken into your life.

Self-Reflection: The words you sow today will yield harvest tomorrow. Speak wisely.

Action Point: Speak the right words to your life!

Daily Confession: I speak life into my future. I cleanse every negative thought conceived and any word spoken against my life by the blood of Jesus. I am free because Jesus is the living word.

Intercessory prayer:

Hymn: Let the words of my mouth,

And the meditation of my heart,

Be acceptable in Your sight,

Oh Lord
